Blues

Anna Vickers is a painter. Her evocative work evades classification, blurring the line between abstraction and figuration. The feminine forms in Vickers’ paintings compete for primacy with the density of their surroundings. Decisive applications of blue and white oil paint comprise a topography that evokes images of the sky or the ocean floor. The elusive figures emerge from a liminal space within their atmospheric surroundings. Their lack of definition frees them from notions of identity. Rather than attempt to classify these figures, the viewer must contend with the history of painting in order to make sense of their presence.
